The exact skills and experience we look for when recruiting, depends on the individual job.

However in general, any previous experience working on Civil projects, both in New Zealand and overseas is highly regarded. Experience on projects like Highway, Roading or Bridge—infrastructure projects broadly, as there is a lot of this kind of work taking place here in Aotearoa New Zealand. Also in demand is experience working on large scale, commercial vertical construction projects.

For property roles, New Zealand commercial experience is generally expected, due to the understanding of our local legislation that is needed for these jobs.

Again it depends on the job, as to what is specifically required. However here are the kinds of qualifications that we see regularly, and that our clients ask for:

• Certificate in Carpentry (Level 4)
• LBP (Licensed Building Practitioners)
• Civil Engineering Degree
• Highway Engineering Degree
• Bachelor of Construction Management
• Bachelor of Property

Due to the nature of much construction work, unfortunately remote work or work-from–home options are generally not available. We do see a little flexibility, depending on the role. Some engineering positions, for example in consultancies, or in client-side roles offer flexible options, including hybrid, work-from-home options to flexible hours.

Roles in property follow a similar pattern.

Overall, flexible work arrangements are fairly uncommon, in comparison to other industries.
