Madison Recruitment is proud to partner with a leading New Zealand infrastructure and utilities organisation to recruit a Financial Accountant for their Auckland-based finance team.
Our client is a major player in the energy and telecommunications sector, employing over 1,000 people across multiple locations nationwide. This is a business of genuine scale and complexity, supported by a high-performing and well-structured finance function.
The Role:
This is a broad and technically challenging financial accounting position where you will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning the month-end close process, including preparation and posting of journals (leave and salary accruals, prepayments, insurance, FBT)
- Maintaining and reconciling the lease module within the ERP system in line with NZ IFRS
- Managing tax compliance, including preparation of GST, FBT, income tax, and RWT returns
- Supporting the preparation of group and subsidiary financial statements and accompanying notes
- Assisting with external audits, group consolidations, and elimination entries
- Maintaining well-documented and audit-ready workpapers
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives, including process mapping, documentation, and finance projects
About You:
You are a technically strong and detail-focused accountant who takes ownership of your work and consistently delivers high-quality results.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A CA qualification (or equivalent) and a relevant Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- At least 3+ years’ financial accounting experience within a complex organisational environment
- Strong knowledge of NZ IFRS and New Zealand tax principles
Additional experience and attributes:
- Advanced Excel skills with a structured and analytical approach
- Strong communication skills, with the confidence to raise issues early and contribute to a “no surprises” culture
- Experience in a Big 4 or mid-tier CA firm is advantageous
- Exposure to utilities, infrastructure, or similarly complex industries is beneficial
