About the Role
Join a global publishing team dedicated to advancing research integrity and quality. As a Consulting Editor, you’ll be the first point of contact for newly submitted manuscripts, ensuring they meet our editorial policies and journal scope. Your role is critical in maintaining high standards of ethical research and scientific accuracy.

Day-to-day, you’ll review manuscripts to confirm compliance with guidelines, check for ethical approvals, assess language clarity, and identify issues such as redundancy or image integrity. You’ll liaise directly with authors to resolve queries and ensure the best version of each paper moves forward to peer review. This position also involves supporting other teams with science-related questions and contributing to process improvement projects across the business.
 
This role is a full time, permanent position, head office is on the North Shore.
 
Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct initial checks for policy and research integrity requirements
  • Assess manuscripts for readiness for peer review, rejection, or progression
  • Communicate with editors, publishers (primarily UK-based), and internal teams
  • Oversee revisions and guide papers through to publication
  • Review incoming manuscripts and prepare them for peer review
  • Collaborate with desk editors and global team members
  • Flexibility for occasional calls outside NZ time zones

 
What We’re Looking For:

  • Happy to take someone who has just finished study with a bit of work experience, or perhaps you want to move out of the lab environment? 
  • A keen interest in publishing and the research process
  • Experience in biomedical sciences is a must, Master’s ideally
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to convey messages clearly, concisely and accurately, in English
  • Ability to build and manage relationships with authors, peer reviewers, editors, and other colleagues
  • An inquisitive nature, maintaining current knowledge related to developments and trends in respective areas of expertise
  • Takes a proactive approach toward learning new technologies and processes
  • Someone who acts with integrity and accountability
  • Ability to make data-driven informed decisions synthesizing information from a wide range of sources
  • Thorough and detail oriented
