An established, privately owned commercial fit‑out contractor is looking to add an Intermediate to Senior Quantity Surveyor to its cost team. The business is busy, properly busy, with more work coming in than it can comfortably deliver. Growth is planned, controlled, and already underway, and strengthening the commercial function is the priority.
This role requires New Zealand‑based experience in commercial construction and fit‑out. It is not suited to candidates without local market experience.
The role
You’ll work closely with operations and delivery, managing costs across commercial fit‑out projects from early involvement through to final account.
It’s a fast‑moving environment with strong personalities, high standards, and no appetite for drama or passengers. If you’re solid, organised, and commercially sharp, you’ll be backed and rewarded.
Scope of work
- Managing project costs end to end across NZ‑based commercial fit‑out projects
- Preparing budgets, forecasts, and cost reports
- Letting and administering subcontracts
- Handling progress claims, variations, and final accounts
- Working closely with PMs and site teams to manage risk and margin
- Contributing to the development of cost systems as the business scales
Background required
- Intermediate to Senior QS experience within New Zealand commercial construction and fit‑outs
- Strong understanding of NZ contracts and procurement methods, including NZS 3910
- Experience dealing with local subcontractors, suppliers, and consultants
- Comfortable working at pace and making judgement calls
- Practical, commercially minded, and accountable
