We’re looking for Development Engineers to support a busy approvals and development function covering water and wastewater networks across Auckland.
These are hands‑on contract roles. You’ll be reviewing designs, dealing with council and consultants, and helping move applications through the system. This suits engineers who are comfortable making calls, pushing back where needed, and communicating clearly with a wide mix of stakeholders.
What you’ll be doing
- Reviewing Engineering Plan Approvals (EPAs) for water and wastewater works
- Supporting Resource Consent (RC) applications, including capacity checks and upgrade requirements
- Checking designs against relevant Codes of Practice and standards
- Reviewing construction information and supporting asset acceptance / vesting
- Responding to technical queries from consultants, developers, contractors and council
- Managing multiple applications at once and working to agreed timeframes
This is not a pure design role – it’s approvals, compliance and stakeholder‑heavy.
What we’re looking for
- Around 3+ years’ experience in civil engineering
- Background in:
- Water or wastewater networks, or
- Stormwater, drainage or similar horizontal infrastructure
- Experience in a consultancy or approvals environment
- Exposure to EPAs, RCs, council RFIs, compliance reviews or asset acceptance
- Confident communicator — you’ll be dealing with councils, engineers and non‑technical stakeholders regularly
Overseas experience is fine, but NZ experience or strong knowledge of NZ standards, building codes and QA is preferred. If your NZ experience is lighter, consultancy or approvals exposure will help offset that.
Why this role
- Immediate contract work with real responsibility
- Strong technical team and clear processes
- Good mix of technical review and stakeholder engagement
- These teams have a track record of contractors moving into longer‑term roles, but this is offered as a contract engagement
If you’re a Development Engineer or Civil Engineer available for a 4–5 month contract in Auckland, and you’re comfortable operating in an approvals‑led environment, get in touch.
