Senior Business Development and Specification Manager
$140,000 per annum + Car + Benefits

A rare opportunity to step into a nationally focused specifications role where you’ll play a key part in rebuilding and shaping a business.

This organisation sits within a globally recognised group, with the agility and autonomy of a locally run business. Following significant change over the past 12 months, the company is leaner, more focused, and in a strong financial position, with a clear strategy centred on specification-led growth. Known for specialist products such as expansion joints and wall protection systems, they partner closely with architectural firms across New Zealand and are now looking for someone to build on that momentum and further strengthen their presence in the market.

The role
This is a senior, field-based business development role focused on driving product specification through the architectural community. You’ll be out on the road most days building relationships, presenting CPDs, and positioning the brand as a trusted partner early in the design process. It’s a hands-on, visible role that suits someone commercially sharp, comfortable working without heavy structure, and motivated by long-term relationship building rather than quick wins.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with architects, engineers and developers across New Zealand to drive product specifications into upcoming projects
  • Deliver engaging CPD presentations, using these as a key entry point into new and existing firms
  • Proactively network through industry events, client meetings, and day-to-day engagement with architects and installers
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities through outreach, referrals, and targeted engagement
  • Work closely with the technical team to ensure solutions are well-positioned and accurately specified
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support project delivery and maintain momentum across long sales cycles
  • Contribute to broader business improvement, including CRM, systems, and operational processes
  • Take ownership of your national activity plan, balancing Auckland-based work with regular travel across New Zealand

What You’ll Bring

  • Proven experience in business development, ideally with a strong “hunter” mindset
  • Background in construction, building products, trade sales, or similar environments
  • Confidence presenting to groups, particularly within professional environments
  • Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to quickly build trust and credibility
  • Experience working in unstructured or evolving business environments
  • High level of energy, initiative, and accountability in a field-based role
  • Ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders effectively
  • A natural, down-to-earth communication style that resonates with industry professionals
  • Ideally, an existing network within architectural or construction circles

Why Join?

  • Play a key role in an evolving business that is rebuilding, refining, and gaining momentum
  • Step into a true leadership role with a seat at the table and input into strategy and direction
  • Shape more than sales. Influence systems, processes, and how the business grows
  • Competitive base salary, plus company vehicle, fuel card, and full tools of trade
  • Genuine autonomy to manage your schedule and approach day-to-day
  • Clear pathway into broader leadership as the team scales, including future direct reports
  • Join a tight-knit, collaborative down-to-earth team
