About the Role:

This newly created senior position reflects a strategic focus on market competitiveness and long-term outcomes for consumers. As the Chief Advisor you will:

  • Be the lead internal expert on competition issues, influencing strategic decisions across a range of projects.
  • Contribute directly to the organisation’s leadership thinking on how competition can be fostered and maintained.
  • Provide expert economic and policy analysis, preparing advice and reports for senior executives and governance groups.
  • Lead and shape new initiatives that promote efficient, innovative, and consumer-focused market outcomes.
  • Stay across international developments and best practices in competition and regulation.
  • Mentor and support the analytical capability of colleagues across the organisation.
  • Build trusted relationships with stakeholders across government, regulated industries, and advisory bodies.

About you:
You’re a strategic advisor with strong experience in applied competition or anti-trust law, economics, or policy. You’re delivery-focused, an excellent communicator, and comfortable working across disciplines and with senior stakeholders.

  • Extensive experience in competition policy, regulatory economics, or anti-trust law (NZ or AU preferred)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to convey complex ideas to diverse audiences.
  • A strategic mindset, with the ability to influence direction and outcomes across multiple projects.
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement abilities
  • Able to navigate complexity and provide clear, practical advice
  • Familiarity with government processes and regulatory frameworks is desirable.
