The current Senior QS here in Christchurch is heading home overseas, leaving some big boots to fill. If you’re a strong senior quantity surveyor, this is your chance to take the lead on some of Canterbury’s most high-profile rebuild and commercial developments. This position is based in Christchurch and would require relocation.
About the Role:
This is a permanent opportunity to join a main contractor delivering landmark projects across Canterbury. You’ll step into a senior position overseeing multi-million-dollar budgets, managing claims and EOTs, shaping tender strategies, and delivering sharp commercial insights on active sites. You’ll work in a forward-thinking team that values safety, collaboration and innovation and your voice will count.
Key Responsibilities:
- Budget Oversight: Take the lead in establishing, tracking, and optimising project budgets and forecasts
- Commercial Management: Prepare and negotiate progress and final claims, support EOT submissions, and drive cost-control initiatives
- Tender Leadership: Contribute to tender strategies, cost estimates, VE proposals, and commercial evaluations
- Site Intelligence: Provide commercial guidance through detailed cost analysis on live sites
- Strategic Reporting: Deliver financial reporting and insights to guide senior decision-making and ensure project alignment
About You:
- 5+ years’ experience as a QS with a New Zealand main contractor is an absolute must
- Proven ability to manage complex budgets, deliver cost savings, and influence commercial outcomes
- Skilled in CostX, Candy or similar cost-management tools
- A collaborative leader who enjoys mentoring junior QSs and sharing commercial insights
- Already based in Christchurch with full NZ work rights
