Site Stabilisation Engineer – Contract position
  • 6 month contract position
  • On site role – Tauranga location
  • Immediate start required

We are looking for a highly confident Engineer with a strong background in manufacturing processing, for a critical Site Stabilisation project in Tauranga.

About the company

Our client is a global employer committed to producing innovative performance materials for critical industries including construction, agriculture, energy, automotive and infrastructure protection. This role is based at their Major Hazard Facility (MHF), which is also a 24/7 operation.

The site is currently working through a period of operational transition following leadership changes and increasing site demands. As a result, there is a need to strengthen core operating systems, reinforce process safety fundamentals, and improve consistency across plant operations and documentation.

About the role

The key purpose of the role is to stabilise site operations, re-establish operating discipline, and restore the effectiveness of process safety systems, documentation, and operational practices, while supporting the Site Leader in driving safe, compliant, and reliable plant performance.

This is a hands-on site stabilisation and operational support role.   The successful candidate will be expected to enter a complex operating environment and quickly assess, prioritise, and support the stabilisation of key operational systems and work practices.

During the first three months the key priorities will be stabilisation and re-establishing operating discipline, through:

  • Rapidly assessing current plant conditions, practices and risks
  • Re-establishing basic operating discipline across shifts
  • Identifying and eliminating unsafe or informal workarounds
  • Supporting and strengthening process safety management systems
  • Re-enforcing adherence to SOPs, permit systems, isolation practices and standard work procedures
  • Troubleshooting production and process issues
  • Supporting safe and reliable operation of plant equipment
  • Building understanding of process constraints and limitations

The second stage will be focussing on performance improvement at the four to six month stage.

About you

This is a contract position which requires immediate start. To be considered for the role, you will need to have the following qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or Mechanical / Manufacturing Engineering
  • At least 8 years experience in a chemical manufacturing or high hazard process environment
  • Proven experience in site stabilisation or re-establishing operating discipline in degraded systems

  • Strong knowledge of NZ HSNO regulations
  • Asset integrity and mechanical integrity programs
  • Incident investigation and RCA

  • Strong working knowledge of SAP or equivalent ERP systems

You will also be able to:

  • be able to work with urgency and pragmatism
  • build rapport and gain credibility quickly with operators and leadership
  • demonstrate strong problem solving and decision making

Some experience with the following would also be helpful:
