As a Marine Biosecurity Ambassador, you’ll be part of an awareness programme supporting marine biosecurity initiatives across Canterbury. You’ll engage directly with recreational boaters and marine users, helping promote best practice behaviours, and supporting the Protect Our Paradise campaign.
Your role will involve a mix of community engagement, advocacy, and reporting, making every day varied and rewarding.
Key Responsibilities
- Educate recreational boaters and marine users about marine biosecurity risks
- Promote awareness of Canterbury’s marine biosecurity rules and the Protect Our Paradise campaign
- Conduct face-to-face engagement activities at marinas, boat ramps, events, and other community locations
- Record and report engagement activities and outcomes
- Work collaboratively with stakeholders and project team members to support programme delivery
About You
We’re interested in candidates who are passionate about protecting our natural environment and enjoy communicating with people from all walks of life.
Ideally, you’ll bring:
- A genuine interest in marine environments and environmental protection
- Experience as a recreational marine user and/or a passion for protecting Aotearoa’s natural environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Confidence speaking with a wide range of people
- The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications
- Community engagement, education, communications, or event experience (advantageous but not essential)
Requirements
- Full, clean New Zealand driver’s licence
- Ability to drive both manual and automatic vehicles
- Previous environmental science study or experience is beneficial but not essential
