Assistant Account

A growing financial services organisation is seeking a capable and proactive Assistant Accountant to provide hands-on support across a wide range of finance activities.

This is a rare opportunity to join a business during an exciting period of growth, working closely with senior finance leadership and gaining exposure to all facets of a modern finance function. You’ll enjoy variety, responsibility, and the opportunity to contribute to meaningful financial and operational outcomes.

We’re looking for someone who can hit the ground running, take ownership of their work, and remain calm and effective when priorities shift. If you’re someone who enjoys rolling up your sleeves, figuring things out, and operating with a high degree of autonomy, we’d love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Month-end reporting and reconciliations
  • Treasury accounting support
  • Payroll administration support (outsourced provider)
  • Management accounts, dashboards and KPI reporting
  • Financial modelling and analysis
  • Budgeting and forecasting support
  • Board reporting assistance
  • Audit preparation and liaison
  • Monitoring cash, liquidity and capital positions
  • Regulatory and covenant reporting support
  • Assisting with lending, deposit and treasury accounting activities

About You: You do not need experience across every aspect of the role. We are seeking someone who has exposure to a broad range of finance functions and is eager to learn and develop further.

You’ll ideally bring:

  • Experience in a Finance Assistant, Assistant Accountant, Financial Accountant or similar role
  • Strong attention to detail and financial acumen
  • The ability to work independently and prioritise effectively
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach
  • Strong Excel and reporting skills
  • Confidence working in a dynamic, evolving environment
  • A willingness to get stuck in wherever needed

What’s on Offer?

  • Immediate start opportunity
  • Initial six-month contract with potential for extension or permanecy as the organisation grows
  • Broad exposure across accounting, reporting, treasury and regulatory activities
  • A supportive, collaborative team environment
  • The chance to make a genuine impact from day one

We’re particularly interested in speaking with candidates who are available immediately. This role may suit someone recently returned to Christchurch, returning to the workforce, between opportunities, or simply looking for their next challenge without a lengthy notice period.

If you’re ready to make an immediate contribution and join a business that’s building for the future, apply now. Any questions please contact sarah.harland@madison.co.nz
