Payroll Officer – 6 Month Fixed Term Contract (Immediate Start)

We are currently seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to join a major government agency on a 6-month fixed-term contract, starting ASAP. This is a critical role within a project team focused on accurate and efficient management of timesheets and overtime for a diverse workforce.

About the Role
This position will sit within a dedicated payroll team and will play a key part in supporting the transition and implementation of new payroll procedures. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and validating high volumes of overtime entries and timesheet submissions, working closely with internal stakeholders to ensure data integrity, compliance, and timely processing.

Key Responsibilities:
• Review, verify, and process employee overtime and timesheets across multiple departments
• Ensure payroll entries are accurate and comply with relevant industrial awards and legislative requirements
• Collaborate with HR, finance, and operational teams to resolve payroll discrepancies and data issues

About You:
We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented payroll professional who thrives in structured and high-volume environments. You will bring a strong knowledge and understanding of end-to-end payroll functions and have experience working within organisations processing volume payroll.

Essential Skills and Experience:

• Minimum 3+ years of payroll experience in a volume payroll organisation
• Demonstrated experience using large payroll systems – SAP would be advantageous but not necessarily essential
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise confidently with multiple stakeholders
• Proven ability to work independently and as part of a project-focused team
